During the World Cup qualifiers and the European Championships Spain produced goals like no team I’ve ever seen before. It was never a problem as they simply knew how to find the back of the net. However, in the 2010 World Cup Spain had trouble scoring in the finals against Netherlands.

As the final minutes were ticking away, Spain did what they know how to do. They punished the Netherlands and avoided the luck of penalty shots. Both teams were tired and it didn’t help the Dutch that they went a man down.

In the 116th minute Andres Iniesta gave the lead to Spain. Torres and Fabregas came off the bench and helped put some pressure on the exhausted Netherlands team. Spain kept the pressure on and they were due. They knew they had to avoid penalties as that’s pretty much a toss up. So they kept on working!

Many teams would have lost their focus, but Spain’s persistent attack is what makes them so good. They knew it would finally come and it did. This was actually the story of the tournament for them as they only scored 8 goals throughout the World Cup. Typically, a championship team will score more than that. This didn’t bother Spain, or if it did they brushed it off and kept working hard.

New Yorkers were praying. They said their prayers for Lebron James to announce his move to NY to play for the Knicks, but unfortunately that didn’t happen. As he made the announcement to head to Miami, the dreams of Knicks fans were ruined.

The future for the Knicks is in the hands of players like Danilo Gallinari and Amare Stoudemire. However, it’s unlikely that Amare can stay healthy as he gets older. So the Knicks organization just may have to deal with another Marbury situation, as Amare eats up the salary cap.

It can’t get much worse for Knicks fans and it’s been pretty bad. I can’t see it changing anytime in the next five years, so get used to the embarrassing games. The only positive to come out of this for New York fans is the cheap tickets they’ll be able to score.

So what do Knicks fans have to look forward? Well, besides for Amare eating up the cap space there are a few other things. We can look forward to the Heat coming to town and watching pure humiliation. I’d expect the Heat to beat the Knicks by about 40 points!

What else is there to look forward to as a Knicks fan? Nate Robinson will return to MSG for the 2nd time. There will also be some words from Marbury. I’d love to hear him voice his opinion and share what’s going through his head. It’s just a matter of time before he starts publicly ripping on the Knicks organization.

Bottom line is that the next few years (or more) are going to be quite embarrassing for the Knicks. It probably has to do with the jinx the Knicks brought on when then traded Ewing. Barkley said it, and he was right!

For anyone who works for the Knicks, they must know what their future’s going to bring. They’re probably trying to make some changes, but there’s not much they can do at this point. They missed the boat, unless they want to put together some sign and trade deals. Players like Tracy McGrady, Eddie House and Al Harrington are available, but in my opinion (as well as many experts) these guys are just getting older and slowing down. That’s not what the Knicks need now!

With that said, it’s not going to get better for quite some time. Their draft picks over the next few years are terrible as well considering they may lose their pick next year if Houston chooses to take it. Then in 2012 they don’t even have a first round pick. It’s bad and will remain this way!

The man who has represented England’s National Soccer team for the past decade will get one more chance to play for the squad. Coach Fabio Capello has called on Beckham to come play even after announcing that Beckham’s international career was over.

Beckham has accomplished something that no British footballer has ever accomplished. He set the record with the most caps for the national team, making 115 appearances at the international level. It was unfortunate that he wasn’t able to add on to the 115 caps at the previous World Cup, due to an injury. Since he’s such a leader and role model to the current players, Capello still brought him along to help out from the sidelines.

England is now working towards qualifications into the 2012 European Championship. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like they’ll need Beckham to qualify. Instead it seems as if they’re trying to find the up and coming players to get them in the door.

Capello has decided to give David Beckham the opportunity to get one more cap for England. This will be an opportunity for David to say farewell and thanks to the fans. The picture perfect setting would be at their home field (Wembley Stadium). I admire Capello’s decision to give David this chance, but many people aren’t happy that Capello’s counted him out for the future.

Clearly Beckham is getting older and it shows on the field. He’s still a great leader on the field, but he’s obviously slowed down a bit. More importantly, Capello needs to find the right guys to move forward and improve.

In an interview with Fabio Capello, he stated that he didn’t get a chance to discuss this situation with Beckham. I’d have to imagine it’s come up in the past, so it’s no shock to Beckham.

Beckham’s agent came back with a response to Capello’s statements that basically said after David’s farewell game, it’s over. His agent made it clear that David is not ready to retire and is very serious about playing international matches if he’s fit.

His agent also made it very clear that David is available to play for England any time he’s fit. I can see David making one last surprise and pulling through to make the 2012 squad. It would be a great end to his career!
